For hundreds of year, poor elephants have been hunted for their ivory. Luckily Chief Executive, Leung Chun-ying, announced plans to ban the domestic trade. "That motion passed unanimously, demonstrating agreement by lawmakers across Hong Kong's political divide." Sadly 25% of Hong Kongs population are in strong support of the ivory trade. They are currently searching for effective ways to ensure the ban of imports and exports of the item.
Although many jobs will be lost, this ban is now one step closer to saving endangered elephants. I believe this is important because this inhuman form of killing is closer to being over. Many elephants are key stone species and without their existence the areas around them will heavily differ for the worse.
