Increased amounts of CO2 induced by humans has actually begun to affect photosynthesis of plants. It has actually shifted the balance between photosynthesis and photorespiration toward photosynthesis. It has affected photosynthetic metabolism in plants over the course of the 20th century. This could be good news as it dampens climate change by absorbing a third of human-caused CO2 emissions. This is however often counteracted by future temperature increases. I believe this is important because it is yet another sign of humans destructive behavior. Although this is a major break through, it shows just how much human induced CO2 emissions affect the environment around us. One can not rely on anything but personal change to reverse the affects of global warming.

Coal has been a major support to chinas economy for years now. However, oversupply has led to major price drops of the product. This has resulted in major coal companies failure. "Coal was the main industry of Shanxi province." I think this is important because this could potentially make china rely on other forms of energy. Their use of coal has contributed to major pollution and this could be a turning point for them. Indian Star tortoise takes the world by storm and now leads the nation in tortoise trade! This trade however is not always legal..."Back in 2004, one estimate figured about 10,000 to 20,000 were being taken illegally from the wild over the tortoises’ entire range, which encompasses India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka." The trade has sadly led to the decline of other rare species. "...the radiated tortoise and the ploughshare tortoise, of which there are fewer that 200 adults left in the wild." The trade can result in juvenile tortoises to be taken out of their natural habitat before they can fully develop and reach their reproductive years.
